Why Daily Connections with Nature?
As with any project we might start, sometimes a force inside of us leads us there, and before we know it, we're there, ready to proceed down the path toward greater exploration and discovery without knowing precisely why. The creative journey some might say.
My path toward starting Daily Connections with Nature can be directly tied to my Mom departing the physical realm and I believe, journeying into the spiritual realm.
She is my kindred spirit and I always from a young age felt directly connected to her on a highly intuitive level. I spent much of my 20's and 30's living overseas in other countries and all the while, I felt connected to her daily.
When she departed last summer, I felt my only recourse was to find her in nature. This led to my personal daily connections with nature. I believe she shares lessons and wisdom with me through the daily experiences I have outdoors. Whether on a walk, a bike ride or just taking a drive and watching a pair of sandhill cranes fly overhead.
Due to this, I have found myself having an even higher regard and reverence for nature than I felt I already had. It has led me to want to volunteer at our local nature conservancies more. To donate more to wildlife funds. And to begin the Daily Connections With Nature initiative.
I still have endless questions about nature. Today a good friend and I were discussing the wildfires in Colorado. This friend lives in Fort Collins and we were together wondering where animals go during a wildfire? We then talked about the fact that birds go into the eye of a hurricane but do they migrate in the eye as the hurricane moves?
This summer I have seen a couple of blue birds but they still seem so rare. Why is this? Are we building less blue bird houses? Do we need to start a movement to build more?
I find my questions and researching answers to these questions bring me peace. It lets me feel connected to a broader world and universe. Similar to the underworld of the ocean, our outdoor environment is another world we still have a limited understanding of.
I feel similarly about the spiritual realm. I feel much more connected to it - I am guessing because of my Mom. I feel nature and the spiritual realm coincide. They seem closely tied, innately connected. Therefore when I engage with nature and spend time outdoors or even read about nature, I instantly feel more connected to my Mom and the spiritual realm.
It's my hope that the Daily Connections With Nature initiative will encourage more people to explore their own personal connection to nature. And in turn, I hope these connections inspire more peace, happiness and nature preservation.
